Q. What does ISSN stand for and why is it unique?

An ISSN is an 8-digit code used to identify newspapers, journals, magazines and periodicals of all kinds and on all media–print and electronic. Each ISSN is unique, serving as an identifier for distinguishing between identical and similar titles. Think of it as similar to a barcode on items in a store which give every item a recognized price and name at the check-out.
